A “Dek Wat” (เด็กวัด) refers to a temple boy in Thailand, typically a young male who resides in a Buddhist temple and assists monks with daily tasks in exchange for food, shelter, and sometimes education. Many Dek Wat come from underprivileged backgrounds and see this as an opportunity for a better life.

Being a groomsman is hard work, unpaid, and full of potential embarrassment. But hey, at least there’s free food and open bar, right? Now, go forth and be the best (and most underappreciated) groomsman you can be!

Student Helping Set Up a Songkran Festival Tent! So, you’ve been voluntold (not volunteered) to help set up the Songkran festival tent at school. Congratulations! You are now part of an elite team of unpaid laborers whose job is to sweat, suffer, and survive under the blazing sun—all for the glory of a school event that teachers will take credit for.

Exciting, transformative, fulfilling

I started Thai class with Ann at the Center, and have learned so much. She is really well organized, very encouraging and gets everyone involved in speaking Thai in a lively and engaging way. If you’re interested in learning this language, I highly recommend the Center, and Ann in particular.

The best!

Ann is the greatest Thai teacher in the world!
